Thread by Elena Zucker
“For dazzling drama interwoven with suspense, history, politics and self-identity, Thread is worth unravelling for yourself.” The Australian Stage
Thread makes its American debut at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival following a successful run in Perth, Australia. This one-woman show was written for Australian actress Mischa Ipp by award-winning playwright Elena Zucker.
From NYC to Palestine, Mimi's world collapses with the inadvertent like of a long-lost love's dissident Facebook status. Identities unravel, as do the boundaries between fact and fiction, Jew and Arab, time and space.
Unresolved romance can ruin your life.
“I don’t remember the last time I heard the English language used to its fullest and most erudite potential. Honey for the ears.” – Craig Williams, Perth audience member.
Running time 75 minutes
Thread has been selected by Indie Theater Now to be published in their 2016 collection of new plays and has been recommended by The Huffington Post, Playbill and Show-Score.

“…a horizontal line draws down the screen, like a squeegee on a windshield at the carwash. It’s erasing my page, leaving behind the pale blue hue of the Facebook backdrop.”
The consequences of an explosive comment thread on Mimi’s Facebook page continue to reverberate long after the computer shuts down. From NYC to Perth, Israel to Palestine, THREAD sews its way between the personal and political, fact and fiction, arriving at the statelessness of self.
“Is it treason to the US if you’re actually an Aussie? Do they execute foreign nationals?”
Written and directed by Elena Zucker, an award-winning NYC playwright and director, designed by the lighting designer at The Public Theater (famous for NYC’s Shakespeare in the Park) and starring Mischa Ipp, a Perth bred actress who now lives in NYC and acts regularly Off-Broadway and in film, TV and voice-overs.
